The house
A maison that never wanted to be a hotel
The Comtesse de Beaulieu built the house in 1912 for her daughters and their inconvenient libraries. It became a hotel only in 1987, and grudgingly: the corridors still bend around the original bookcases, and room fourteen keeps the countess's writing desk because no one has ever had the heart to move it.
Thirty-one rooms face either the courtyard garden or the Rue de Grenelle. There is no lobby music, no minibar theatre, and no conference floor. Breakfast is served under the glass roof until eleven, and the kitchen will send up a tray at any hour without a surcharge or a sigh.
Our inspector stayed in February and again in March. Both visits passed all forty-one points; the house has held its standing rate for three consecutive years.

Eight minutes on foot to the Musée Rodin, twelve to the Boulevard Saint-Germain. The métro at Rue du Bac is two streets over; the house car covers everything else.
