How adoption works
We keep it simple on purpose. No home inspections, no vet references for first-time owners, no waiting weeks for a callback. Just a real conversation about the right match.
Average time from hello to home: 5 days
Meet & greet
Visit the shelter or an adoption event. Spend real time in a play yard — bring the kids and your current dog if you have one.
Walk-ins welcome · daily 11am–6pm
Application chat
A short form and a 20-minute conversation with an adoption counselor about your home, schedule, and what you're hoping for.
Takes about 20 minutes
Sleepover option
Not sure yet? Take your match home for a 48-hour trial sleepover. About 9 in 10 sleepovers turn into adoptions.
Optional · dogs and cats
Gotcha day

Questions families always ask
No. We trust honest conversations over inspections. For a few special-needs animals we may ask extra questions about fencing or stairs — we'll always tell you why.
Absolutely — list up to three favorites on one application and we'll talk through fit for each. Bonded pairs count as one very lucky application.
Every Tangerine Tails pet comes back to us, no questions and no judgment, at any point in their life. We'd always rather help you troubleshoot first — call us before you panic.
Yes! We adopt anywhere within a 3-hour drive. For dogs we ask that you visit in person at least once; cats can go home the same day.
A photo ID, a collar or carrier, and everyone in your household who wants a vote. We handle the rest, including the celebratory photo.
Not ready to adopt just yet?
