I work slowly, and I paint the light before I paint the thing it falls on.

Ines Halvorsen (b. 1986, Ålesund) is a painter based in Oslo. She works in oil and egg tempera across four ongoing series, building images from thin, chalky layers until a place resolves into a kind of weather rather than a view.

Her paintings begin on the coast — at the tideline, in low interiors, or at the hour when water forgets its edge — and are finished from memory in the studio. The subject is rarely the sea itself but the residue it leaves: salt marks, grey light, the colour of drying.

She studied at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (MFA, 2013) and has exhibited across the Nordic countries and Europe. Her work is held in public and private collections including Nasjonalmuseet and KODE.
