About the series

We make stories you can hear in the dark.

Warm Signal started in the winter of 2023, in a spare bedroom lined with moving blankets and one borrowed ribbon microphone. The first reel was a ten-minute ghost story read aloud to nobody. We posted it anyway.

Three seasons later, the booth is a little better insulated and the company has grown, but the method hasn't changed: one narrator, close-miked, telling a small story that trusts the quiet. We record most episodes in a single take because performances breathe better when they aren't stitched.

Every chapter ships with a story note — where the idea came from, what we cut, and the one line we couldn't. It's the part of making things that usually stays hidden, and it's our favorite part to share.

Behind the booth

How a chapter gets made

  1. 1

A draft is written longhand, then read aloud a dozen times before a single word is recorded.

  2. 2

We record in one take at night, when the street is quiet and the room goes still.

  3. 3

Dev builds the room around the voice, then we write the story note and let it go.

Kind words

The most intimate fiction podcast I've found. It sounds like someone reading to you across a kitchen table.

Proof you don't need a big room and a bigger budget — just a warm voice and something true to say.
