In 2019 we were buying more of Mara's honey than she could spare, so she taught us to keep bees. The shop grew out of that — a way to move what our neighbours grow without a supermarket taking the middle. Everything on the shelf comes from someone we've stood in a field with.
We draw a circle on the map and refuse to buy outside it. It keeps the honey local, the oats fresh, and the growers people we can visit on a Tuesday. When the nettle runs out, it runs out — we don't ship it in from three counties away to keep a tile full.
Every bottle and jar carries the day it was pressed, poured, or picked, written on the label before it leaves the kitchen. If something's been on the shelf too long, it goes to the Saturday market at cost rather than to you.
