The FAQ ledger

Every question we've been asked more than twice, answered plainly and entered in the ledger. If yours isn't here, write to us — it probably will be soon.

Ordering

Q.01How do numbered batches work?

Every object is made in a small run — usually 18 to 60 pieces — and stamped with its batch number. Once a batch sells through, it rests until we make it again. The ledger on our home page shows exactly what's on the bench and how many remain.

Q.02Can I reserve something from an upcoming batch?

Yes. Sold-through objects carry a “Join the restock list” link. Restock-list members get an email 48 hours before the new batch goes live — no deposit, no obligation, just first sight.

Q.03Do you take custom commissions?

A few each season, when they suit the benches. Write to workshop@aldergoods.com with rough dimensions and what the piece is for. Commissions start around $180 and take six to ten weeks.

Delivery

Q.04How long until my order ships?

In-stock objects leave the workshop within 2–3 working days, tracked, from Copenhagen. You'll get the tracking link the moment the parcel is in the post van.

Q.05Do you ship internationally?

We ship across the EU, and to the UK, US, and Canada — times and costs are in the table below. Orders outside the EU may attract local duties, which are the recipient's to settle; we mark every parcel honestly.

Q.06How is everything packed?

Paper, wood wool, and string — no plastic anywhere. Ceramics travel double-boxed with the batch card tucked between the layers. The whole parcel composts or recycles.

Care & repair

Q.07How do I care for oiled wood?

Hand wash, dry upright, and re-oil monthly with any food-safe oil — every board ships with a sachet of ours to start you off. If a board ever cups or cracks, send it back and Mads will true it on the Monday bench.

Q.08Is the stoneware dishwasher-safe?

Glazed surfaces, yes — mugs and plates go through the machine without complaint. Pieces with unglazed exteriors, like the Sorrel vase, prefer a hand wash so the raw clay keeps its tooth.

Q.09What does “repairs for life” actually mean?

If we made it, we'll mend it — re-oiling, re-waxing, re-firing hairlines where the clay allows, re-weaving pulled threads. You pay postage to us; the repair and the return trip are on the house, for as long as we exist.

Returns

Q.10What's the return window?

Thirty days, unused, in the original packing. We refund in full once the piece is back on the shelf — usually within three working days of arrival.

Q.11What if something arrives broken?

Send a photo within seven days and we'll replace it from the current batch, or refund you if the batch has sold through. No forms, no returning of shards — please recycle them kindly.

Q.12Can I return a seconds-sale piece?

Seconds are final sale — each one's flaw is described honestly on its tag, and priced accordingly. They're only sold in person at the workshop shop, so you'll always see exactly what you're getting.
