THE GILDED HOUR

Step off the avenue and into the amber light. Gilded geometry, low music, and drinks poured with theatrical restraint — nightly from seven until late.

Est. 1926

An Address Kept Quietly

The Gilded Hour opened the year the city forgot how to sleep — a single narrow room behind a tailor's door, lit by lamps salvaged from a shuttered picture palace. A century later the door is still unmarked, the brass still polished nightly, and the barmen still measure by eye.

We hold sixty seats, forty-two spirits worth arguing about, and a house rule older than any of us: no drink leaves the pass until it is worth the walk.

Reservations recommended — the room fills before the second cocktail.

Signatures of the House

  • The Gilded Fizz

    19

Dry gin, saffron, lemon, egg white and a whisper of champagne. The drink the room is named for.

  • Velvet Curtain

    Signature
    21

Aged rum, ruby port, cacao and burnt orange, stirred long over a single carved cube.

  • Marquee Sour

    18

Rye whiskey, amontillado, walnut and lemon oil — bright at the front, long at the finish.

  • Noir Garden

    20

Mezcal, green chartreuse, cucumber and shiso, clarified to glass-clear over crushed ice.

  • The Understudy

    Zero-Proof
    14

Seedlip garden, verjus, elderflower and tonic — all of the theatre, none of the proof.

  • Brass & Smoke

    22

Islay scotch, honey, black tea and a tableside veil of applewood smoke.

The Room After Dark

Low Light, High Ceilings, No Photographs

A single room of green lacquer and gold leaf, forty-two seats and a mezzanine that holds twelve. The music stays under the conversation, the phones stay in pockets, and the last cocktail is stirred when the last guest is ready to leave.

We keep the house dark on purpose — the gold only glows against it.
